The Christ's College in Christchurch ( New Zealand ) is an Anglican , independent boarding school for boys. It was founded by Reverend Henry Jacobs on the model of Eton College in 1850 and is the oldest independent school in New Zealand.

The motto of Christ's College is Bene Tradita, Bene Servanda - “good traditions, well preserved”. Traditional values ​​at the school are honesty, the desire to learn, respect, justice, spirituality and compassion.

Following the British model, emphasis was placed on a classical education that included Greek, Latin, mathematics, modern foreign languages, English, history and geography. It is believed that James FitzGerald , Canterbury's first superintendent, the school after Christ's College of Cambridge University named, he had visited. The original plan was to locate Christ's College next to Christchurch Cathedral in Cathedral Square - modeled on Christ Church, Oxford. However, there was not enough space, so the campus was located not far on Rolleston Ave and is still in the middle of the city center today.

Christ's College follows the English house system. The day school has seven houses and the boarding school has three houses: Flower, Richards and School. Here people learn and eat together, and do sports and leisure activities.

A total of 38 school subjects are available for the New Zealand school leaving certificate NCEA. The high quality of teaching at Christ's College is reflected in the NCEA results and the number of awards, which are well above the New Zealand average. Sports

Christ's College in Christchurch ranks first in the National Rowing Championships and fourth regionally for New Zealand's national sport, rugby .
