Christa Reich (born March 6, 1937 in Wiesbaden ) is a German church musician , Protestant theologian and university teacher in Mainz.

Christa Reich studied church music, theology and English . She passed the church music exam ( A-exam ) in 1965. Until 1993 she was a lecturer at the church music school in Frankfurt . She then took up a professorship for church music and hymnology in the department of Protestant theology at the University of Mainz. From 1986 to 2017 she headed the Hessische Kantorei, the oldest supra-community choir of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau.

In addition to practical work with choirs, the focus of her work was above all research into the psalms and the liturgically presented psalm prayers. Christa Reich worked in this area on an ecumenical scale , which led to the faculty of Catholic theology at the University of Mainz awarding her an honorary doctorate .

The subject of worship is one of Christa Reich's other scientific questions . Christa Reich was preoccupied with its theological foundation, its history and its current liturgical structure.

Another interest was the lieder study in the context of the Protestant church hymn book , the Protestant hymn book and historical hymn books . She also published numerous hymnological studies and song sermons.
