History and architecture

The Ascension Church was built in the classicism style in 1874. Spatially, the church is divided into an altar - apse in the east, a single nave and a narthex with a gallery above which the church tower rises in the west. There are also semicircular conical choirs on the sides of the nave . The entrance to the church is on the west. The construction of the altar in the east and the church tower in the west is a traditional church construction in the Orthodox Church.

The simple and modest facade decoration of the church is dominated by a gable roof with eaves and high arched monoforias . Otherwise the church is kept in a gray and white color without any special decorative elements, with the west side showing some decorative elements. There are two icon frescoes above the church entrance.

Iconostasis and frescoes

The iconostasis of the church in the style of classicism with inserted gold decoration elements from the baroque and rococo is particularly valuable . The icons on the iconostasis were painted by Dimitrije Posniković during the 1880s.

Posniković or another master from his icon workshop is also attributed the fresco of Our Lady on the vault of the chancel. The other frescoes in the church are more recent and the work of the academic painter Dušan Mojsilović-Sid from 1988. The ones above the heavily damaged frescoes by Todor Farafanov from 1938 were painted over. The church has some icons, as well as other church objects and books from the 19th century.
