Christian Anton Kolb (* 26. August 1826 in Würzburg ; † 9. October 1871 in Amberg ) was a German musician, composer and military - Kapellmeister .

Life

Christian Kolb received his basic musical training on the piano , violin and clarinet from his father Anton Kolb (1803-1851), who was music master of the Royal Bavarian 12th Infantry Regiment in Würzburg since 1826 . After finishing school he attended the teachers' seminar in Würzburg and continued his musical education at the Fröhlich Institute in Würzburg. In 1848 he joined the music corps of the Royal Bavarian 12th Infantry Regiment led by his father as a musician. The regiment was moved to Landau in the Palatinate in 1848 for action against insurgents, in which Christian Kolb distinguished himself through particular bravery. He was praised by General Theodor Prince von Thurn und Taxis and appointed music master of the Royal Bavarian 6th Infantry Regiment in Amberg . Christian Kolb held this position as music master until the end of his life. He shaped musical life with his music corps in a variety of ways through concerts, but also through opera performances in the Amberg theater , led the choir of the Amberg men's choir and composed pieces of light music and an opera, but the sheet music only a few compositions have survived. The Taxis march in the Prussian army march collection AM II, 253, which is dedicated to the general of the cavalry Theodor Fürst von Thurn und Taxis and which is frequently voiced by the music corps of the Bundeswehr in Bavaria, stands out from his compositional work . The music collection of the Bavarian State Library in Munich keeps other compositions .
