Christian Bauer (art historian)

Christian Bauer (* 1963 in Vienna ) is an Austrian art historian , curator and museum director. Since 2015 he has been the founding director of the Lower Austria State Gallery in Krems, which is currently under construction .

Live and act

Christian Bauer studied art history at the University of Vienna from 1984 to 1990 and completed a doctorate at the University of Applied Arts Vienna from 2008 to 2010. From 1990 to 1992 he took on freelance activities. From 1993 to 1999, Bauer was in charge of the Marketing, Advertising, PR, Public Relations and Mediation Department at Bank Austria 's Art Forum .

From 2000 to 2008, Bauer was in the management of the Kunstmeile Krems BetriebsgesmbH and the NÖ Museum BetriebsgesmbH as well as the procuration of the NÖ Kulturwirtschaft GesmbH . As managing director of the Krems art mile, he helped to build it. Milestones here are the founding of the Caricature Museum Krems and the Forum Frohner , as well as the structural adaptation of the Kunsthalle Krems . He also worked with the toikoi design team on the conception of the Schiele birthplace at Tulln train station and the Egon Schiele Museum in Tulln. Bauer's research focus is on modern art with a focus on the artist Egon Schiele, on whom he published two comprehensive publications by Hirmer Verlag : Egon Schiele appeared in 2013 . From 2009 to 2015 he went into self-employment with a focus on international exhibition, research and publication projects. Since 2015, he has been the artistic director of the Landesgalerie Niederösterreich, Krems.
