Christian Behr

Christian Behr (* 1961 in Döhlen ) is a German Protestant clergyman and has been superintendent of the Dresden Mitte church district in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony since 2012 .

Behr grew up in a pastor's family in Zeulenroda and did an apprenticeship as a construction worker with a high school diploma. He then studied Protestant theology at the University of Jena . There he was mainly influenced by Klaus-Peter Hertzsch .

From 1987 to 1989 Behr was vicar in the ecclesiastical province of Saxony and attended the Wittenberg seminary led by Friedrich Schorlemmer . In 1989 he was ordained in Naumburg Cathedral . A time as a village pastor in Zeitz- Kayna followed. In 1994 Behr moved to the Saxon regional church and became pastor in Grimma , where he organized prayers for peace and protest actions against neo-Nazis. Aid for migrants and the action during the 2002 floods were other focal points of his work. He became deputy superintendent of the Leipziger Land church district .

On April 1, 2012, he took up his post as superintendent of the church district of Dresden Mitte. As the first pastor of the Dresden Kreuzkirche , Behr is involved in the Cross of Nails Community and is a founding member of Frei und fromm - Forum for Community and Theology . In response to the weekly Pegida demonstrations, Behr and the City of Dresden invited people to hold talks in the Kreuzkirche. There were also up to 1200 people.

At the end of May 2016, Behr and the church council invited the participants of the Christopher Street Day in Dresden to an evening prayer in the Kreuzkirche, which was also the preaching church of Bishop Carsten Rentzing , who is known for his conservative attitude . In 2017 he was awarded the tolerance prize of the CSD Dresden e. V. awarded.

In December 2018, Christian Behr announced his candidacy for the office of bishop of Mecklenburg and Pomerania ( Northern Church ); in the election he was defeated by Tilman Jeremias , pastor from Mecklenburg.
