Christian Friedrich Feldmann (politician)

Christian Friedrich Feldmann (born August 5, 1813 in Bremen , † May 3, 1883 in Bremen) was a German educator , politician and Bremen senator .

biography

Feldmann received training as a teacher. Afterwards he traveled and worked as a teacher in Paris from 1936 to 1937 and he deepened his language skills. He returned to Bremen in 1837 and traveled to Madrid in 1840 to study the Spanish language. In Bremen he was head of a private institute from 1841 and then a teacher at the commercial school in Bremen .

Before 1848 Feldmann belonged to the Euphrosyne discussion group, which was mostly made up of teachers, and to the Bremen Citizens' Association . As co-author of the Bremen March petition , he took over the management of the association from the cigar manufacturer Wilhelm Brandt in March 1848 and converted it into a political association with the goals of reforming society from below, the emancipation of the middle class through education, political equality and of parliamentarization. In the revolution of 1848/49 he represented the position of Bremen radicalism in Bremen . He participated intensively in the discussion of the Bremen constitution and in March 1849 became a member and president of the Bremen citizenship . On October 6, 1849, he was elected to the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. He was mainly responsible for business and school matters. In 1854/55 he chaired the Bremen Chamber of Commerce . Even after the revolution in Bremen in 1852 had finally failed, he remained a senator until 1878.

Honors

The Feldmannstraße in Bremen- Oberneuland was named after him.
