Christian spirit
Christian Geist (* around 1650 in Güstrow ; † September 27, 1711 in Copenhagen ) was a German organist and composer of the North German Organ School .
life and work
Geist probably received his first music lessons from his father Joachim, who was a cantor . Geist found his first job at the court of Duke Gustav Adolf zu Mecklenburg in Güstrow. In 1669, with the help of a recommendation from the Duke, Geist became bassist at the Danish court orchestra. In June 1670 he found a position as organist in Stockholm , which he held until 1679. He then went to the German Church in Gothenburg as an organist . In 1684 he finally moved to Copenhagen , where he worked as an organist at the Church of the Holy Spirit and for some time at the Trinity Church, until he and his third wife and children fell victim to the plague in 1711 .
Two secular and several sacred vocal works as well as three organ chorals have come down to us from Christian Geist .
