Christian Grahl

Christian Grahl (* 1956 in Hanover ) is a German local politician ( CDU ). On November 1, 2014, he took up his post as full-time mayor of the Lower Saxony city ​​of Garbsen .

Life

After graduating from the Leibniz School in Hanover , Grahl did his basic military service in the Bundeswehr in Warendorf . He then studied law in Göttingen , where he was a research assistant and received his doctorate in 1991. He completed his legal clerkship in Oldenburg and then worked as a lawyer . He played in the basketball Bundesliga for eleven years . With the SSC and ASC Göttingen he was German champion as a winger in 1980 and 1983. After his time in Göttingen, he played in Oldenburg for five years.

This was followed by a job as a legal advisor at the Federal Office for Radiation Protection until Grahl moved to the University of Hildesheim in 1994 . From 1998 he was chancellor there . Later he worked in Hanover as a ministerial office manager, from 2006 chairman of the hardship commission under the Residence Act and from 2009 to 2011 police president of the Central Police Directorate Lower Saxony . Grahl was transferred to the “Sansibar” in the red light district of Hanover after a celebration, and disciplinary proceedings were initiated. It had become known that Grahl had himself taken to the restaurant (one of which was a rocker leader) in a company car. After the transfer he was head of the rural development department in the Ministry of Agriculture until he became full-time mayor of Garbsen in 2014.

Grahl is married and has one son.

Local politics

Grahl won the 2014 mayoral election in Garbsen against the incumbent mayor Alexander Heuer (SPD) in a runoff election with 67.2 percent of the vote.
