Christian Heinrich Schreyer (born December 24, 1751 in Dresden , † January 24, 1823 in Ortrand ) was a German Protestant pastor and composer of church music.

Life

Schreyer was born as the son of the bricklayer and Hoffeuerwächter Heinrich Schreyer (1715–1766) and his wife Euphrosine Eleonore. Grumbach († 1757) born. He first attended the Ehrlich School in Dresden and was accepted as a choir student in the Dresden Annenschule on June 2, 1762 . During this time, I wrote my first own compositions. He passed the candidate exam on May 15, 1775 and studied theology in Wittenberg until Easter 1776 . In the following years he worked as a private tutor and court master in Dresden. Furthermore, he took over sermons for country pastors in the area.

It was not until 1801 that he received his first pastorate. He became pastor and adjunct in Ortrand. On March 13, 1801, he gave his inaugural sermon here. In the same year he married Charlotte Markendorf (1764-1839) from Dresden.

Christian Heinrich Schreyer died in Ortrand in 1823. He and his wife are buried in the Ortrander Jakobskirche , the former parish and later burial church of the city. Their communal tombstone can be found at the south entrance of the church, which has now been walled up.

Work (selection)

Schreyer is the author of poems, theological writings and composer of church music. He wrote about 40 church pieces. Many of his writings did not go to print or did not stand the test of time. Furthermore, he is considered to be the author of a chronicle of the city of Ortrand published in Großenhain in 1852 .
