Christian Heise was born in Erfurt in 1936 as one of four children of the publisher Heinz Heise and his wife Lotte (née Asimont). He began attending school in Riga in 1942 . His mother and children were evacuated from Riga across the Baltic Sea and Sopot in 1944 . In 1946 they went from Erfurt in the Soviet occupation zone to Hanover in the British occupation zone, where their father - escaped from Soviet captivity - joined the family. Christian Heise attended school and high school in Hanover. Then he studied literature and philosophy in Marburg and Hamburg . In Marburg he became a member of the Corps Teutonia Marburg .

In 1972 Christian Heise took over the Heinz-Heise-Verlag in Hanover, which had been founded in 1949, in place of his sick father Heinz Heise , initially as a personally liable partner. He expanded the family business (from 100 employees in 1972) as managing partner and chairman of the management board of the Heise Medien Group to its present size. The Heise publishing group includes publishers in Hanover (headquarters), Erfurt, Goslar , Rostock and Riga. There are also branches in Munich, Bremen and Osnabrück. The main focus of the publishing program is telephone and address books, magazines, electronic media, but also specialist books and fiction.

After reunification, Christian Heise was particularly involved in the new federal states , for example in his native city of Erfurt (1990) and in Rostock (1991). He also wrote the preface to the letter from Erfurt in 1992, with which the Erfurt Home Loyalty Association concluded the series of its Erfurt Heimatbriefe, which has been published since 1961 . These were brought into being by Heinz Heise.

The son Ansgar Heise has been managing director of the Hinstorff Verlag in Rostock, which belongs to the media group, and has been managing director of the Verlag für Telekommunikation Nord in Rostock since 2001.

Christian Heise held several leading positions in the Association of German Information and Directory Media (VDAV) from 1980 to 1999.
