Christian Herrgen

Johann Joseph Christian Herrgen (* 1765 in Mainz , † 1816 in Madrid ) was a German geologist and mineralogist and teacher at the Royal Natural History Cabinet in Madrid.

Life

Christian Herrgen studied at the University of Mainz . He wrote his dissertation in 1781, it has been preserved in the manuscript, Ex logica , in Latin. Herrgen was hired on March 28, 1791 as a professor of mineralogy at the newly founded Real Escuela de Mineralogía by Pierre-François Chabaneau . When Juan Palafox Rovira died in July 1794, the position of a collector at the Royal Natural History Cabinet in Madrid became vacant, where he was appointed by its deputy director José Clavijo y Fajardo .

In 1808 he was appointed a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
