Christian II of Bolanden
Christian II von Bolanden (* 1179 ; † 1253 in Paris ) was Archbishop of Mainz .
Christian of Bolanden (also: Christian von Weisenau) the candidate for the was Mainzer cathedral chapter decided both by the Pope . Innocent IV and King William of Holland the actual desire of the cathedral chapter had rejected the Cologne Archbishop Konrad von Hochstaden also to make archbishop of Mainz. Such a concentration of the most important offices of the empire in one hand could not have been the encouragement of those in power during the dispute between Emperor Friedrich II and the Pope.
The Pope therefore wanted the Speyer bishop Heinrich von Leiningen as the new archbishop, but the capitulars opted for their cathedral provost Christian von Bolanden. This was consecrated as bishop in July or August 1249 by the Archbishop of Cologne, Konrad von Hochstaden, who was appointed Apostolic Legate.
King and Pope demand allegiance and help from the new archbishop in the fight against the Hohenstaufen . Christian, described as peaceable, only complied with this reluctantly, especially since his own area was also affected by arson. Around Easter 1251, King Wilhelm, Archbishop of Trier Arnold II. Von Isenburg and Heinrich von Leiningen met with the Pope, where, among other things, they complained about the reluctance of the Archbishop of Mainz. The cardinal legate Hogo of Santa Sabina then traveled to Mainz in June 1251 to persuade Christian to resign. With an assurance of compensation, Christian probably complied with this request in June. Two years later he died in Paris.
