Glen Walter Edwards (born March 5, 1918 in Medicine Hat , Alberta , Canada , † June 5, 1948 on the site of what is now Edwards Air Force Base , California ) was an American test pilot .

After studying at the University of California, Berkeley , Edwards joined the US Army Air Forces (USAAF) on July 15, 1941 . After deployments in North Africa and Sicily , he returned to the USA in December 1943 and became a test pilot. As part of this activity he was a. a. also in the testing of the flying wing aircraft of the Northrop Corporation such. B. the XB-35 and YB-49 involved.

On June 5, 1948, Edwards was killed in the crash of the Northrop YB-49 prototype at Muroc Air Force Base . The base was renamed Edwards Air Force Base on December 8, 1949 in honor of Glen Edwards .
