Life

De Meza was the son of the rabbi Abraham de Meza and his wife Regina, nee. Cahanet Belinfante. Later he added the self-chosen name Theophilus to his first name Salomon, after his baptism he called himself Christian Julius Frederik. After practicing in Harderwijk , Hamburg and London , he came to Copenhagen in 1753 , where he quickly established a practice and earned a prestigious position among his colleagues. In 1753 he was one of the founding members of the Medicinsk selskab and wrote a few essays, although not all of them were well received. After the death of his wife, he had himself and two of his children baptized by C. Bastholm on October 26, 1783 in Fredensborg. His son Christian Jacob Theophilus de Meza (1756–1844) became a city physician and councilor. His son Christian Julius de Meza was chief general of the Danish troops in the Schleswig-Holstein uprising and in the German-Danish war .
