Christian Nicolaus Möllenhof

Christian Nicolaus Möllenhof (born April 4, 1698 in Lübeck , † December 10, 1748 in Delmenhorst ) was a German theologian and poet of the first half of the 18th century.

Life

Christian Nicolaus was the later son of the preacher at the Burgkirche and at the Holy Spirit Hospital Christian Möllenhof († 1697) and his wife Katharina Lucie Reiche, a daughter of the Lübeck senior Johannes Reiche . His mother married Heinrich Dürkop in 1706 ; in the same year he was appointed to Copenhagen , where Christian Nicolaus Möllenhof grew up. In 1716 he began studying at the University of Copenhagen , which also took him to the universities of Wittenberg , Leipzig and Halle (Saale) . After his first activity as a private tutor in Copenhagen, he became a preacher in the Danish legation at the Imperial Court in Vienna in 1728 . He adhered to Pietism , held prayer hours in the embassy and used his diplomatic protection to support the Protestants in Hungary by publishing edification writings. From 1735 he was pastor in Delmenhorst until his death.

He collected and composed sacred songs and brought together reports on the church history of Protestants in Austria.
