Christian Richter (painter, 1587)
Christian Richter (* 1587 in Altenburg ; † 30 May 1667 in Weimar ) was a German painter .
Life
Richter probably received his training from his father Erasmus Richter (1555–1608), who was Altenburg court painter and is considered the progenitor of the Richter family of painters and builders. His brother Augustus, who later became a goldsmith, was born on February 16, 1600 in Altenburg. Duchess Dorothea Maria appointed Christian Richter as a Weimar court painter in 1612/1613. He had four children with his wife Magdalena (née Hentzelmann) (1590–1629):
- Johann Moritz
- Albrecht (1623–1674)
- Wilhelm (1626–1702)
- Anna Marta.
His two sons Wilhelm and Albrecht also became painters. One of his grandchildren was the builder Christian Richter (1655–1722).
Trivia
Based on Richter's 1660 painting of the Weimar Castle Church (so-called Himmelsburg ), which was destroyed by fire in 1774 and whose organ Johann Sebastian Bach played and wrote many cantatas for it, a virtual reconstruction of the church was created in 2005 .
