Christian Schölnast

Christian Schölnast (born March 30, 1904 in Aschbach, Söchau ; † December 7, 1997 in Riegersburg ) was an Austrian homeland researcher and author as well as the initiator of the private folk and local history foundation named after him .

Life

Born in Aschbach, in the community Söchau, Hartberg-Fürstenfeld the son of a bricklayer foreman and in Riegersburg in the Steiermark grown Christian Schölnast had learned the shoemaking and was in his early years as Störschuster from house to house. His life-long interest in the history, customs and everyday life of his closer homeland resulted from the experience of his craftsmanship during this period and the encounters with people that followed. The result of his occupation with these topics were, among other things, several books.

Schölnast, also known as the "East Styrian Rosegger ", has been honored several times for his research work by the State of Styria. While still alive, he set up the Christian Schölnasts Volks- und Heimatkundeprivatstiftung in close cooperation with the town of Feldbach and its town historian , the purpose of which is to " promote and maintain folklore and local history and the preservation of this folklore and local history " every two years in the city of Feldbach awards prizes for relevant scientific or literary work.
