Christian Theodor Overbeck (born May 16, 1818 in Lübeck ; † March 23, 1880 there ) was a lawyer and senator of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Overbeck was the son of the judge at the Higher Appeal Court of the Four Free Cities Christian Gerhard Overbeck . He attended the Katharineum until graduation at Easter 1838 (together with Heinrich Theodor Behn ). After studying law and obtaining a doctorate as a Dr. jur. Overbeck became a lawyer and notary in his hometown in 1843. In 1850 he was appointed Secretary of the Senate. In 1870 he was elected senator. He worked from 1873 to 1880 as President of the Churchyard and Funeral Commission, the Central Poor Deputation (1871–1876) and the City and Country Office (1878–1880). He bequeathed the artistic legacy of the painters and draftsmen Friedrich Overbeck and Theodor Rehbenitz to the museums of the city of Lübeck, today in the Behnhaus Museum .

He was married to Charlotte Krüger, daughter of the Lübeck Senator Joachim Friedrich Krüger . Christian Theodor Overbeck was a grandson of Lübeck's mayor Christian Adolph Overbeck .
