Christian Veit

Christian Veit (* 1935 in Leipzig ; † May 29, 2011 ) was a German actor and painter.

Life

Christian Veit first learned the art of bookbinding. From 1963 he studied acting in Munich and received his first small engagements in Tübingen , Munich and Vienna . At the end of the 1960s, Veit moved to Berlin and initially worked as a cabaret artist. The German theater director Volker Ludwig engaged Veit in 1972 as a permanent member of the ensemble in his newly founded Berlin Grips Theater . Here he worked until his retirement in 2001 and mainly played roles in which he mimed Berlin originals. Veit played his best-known roles from 1986 in the award-winning musical Linie 1 , such as the famous Wilmersdorfer Widows, which was also made into a film with him in 1988. Despite his retirement, Veit continued to play regularly in the musical until shortly before his death in 2011. Furthermore, Christian Veit was also a passionate painter. His works are expressive to abstract and include acrylic paintings and sculptures. Thematically, the works often tell of his life and are partly biographical, there are family portraits, scenes from Denmark, portraits of fellow actors and Greek motifs, probably based on his time as an actor in Greece. Christian Veit has two daughters and one son.
