Christian von Zimmermann

Christian von Zimmermann (born December 7, 1965 ) is a German and Swiss Germanist .

Career

Christian von Zimmermann comes from Ostholstein and graduated from high school in Neustadt in Holstein in 1985 .

After an apprenticeship as a bookseller's assistant, he studied German, Hispanic and Lusitan studies at the Universities of Kiel , Osnabrück , Santiago de Compostela and Heidelberg (PhD 1996). This was followed by teaching activities at the University of Heidelberg (1996 to 2001) and at the University of Bern (since 2001). Zimmermann is responsible for the publication of Klabund's works in eight volumes and the resulting historical-critical complete edition of the works of Jeremias Gotthelf .

His habilitation was devoted to the subject of biography (Bern 2004). From 2004 to 2008 he was a professor at the Swiss National Science Foundation at the University of Bern; since then he has been a lecturer at the Institute for German Studies and since 2015 head of the research center Jeremias Gotthelf.

His main research interests are literary anthropology, editorial studies , Swiss literature, history and criticism of biographical writing, travel literature and rhetoric .
