Christiane Bruns (medical doctor)

Christiane Josephine Bruns (* 1965 in Reinbek ) is a German surgeon and university professor. Her focus areas are visceral surgery and oncology.

Life

Bruns studied medicine at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . In 1993 she received her license and her doctorate. She then completed her specialist training in surgery in Cologne at the Clinic for General, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery. 1997–1999 she completed a two-year research stay as a postdoc at the Department of Cancer Biology at Texas A&M University . After her return, she continued her specialist training in Cologne until 2001. She completed her habilitation a year later at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . From 2003 she worked for ten years as a senior physician and senior physician in Munich before she accepted the position at Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg . From 2014 she was director of the Clinic for General, Visceral and Vascular Surgery at the Magdeburg University Hospital . In 2016 she followed the call to Cologne, where she heads the clinic and polyclinic for general, visceral and tumor surgery. Her research deals with cancers of the esophagus, stomach and pancreas, with tumor stem cells and tumor angiogenesis, with neovascularization in tumors and with spread and therapy resistance of solid tumors.
