Christiane Driesen

Christiane Jacqueline Elisabeth Driesen (born March 28, 1944 in Paris ) is a French court interpreter and legal translator at national and international courts, founding member and vice-president of EULITA (European Legal Interpreters and Translators Association), chairwoman of the Committee for Court and Legal Interpreting the AIIC , author of numerous publications on the subject of court interpreting and interpreting training as well as head of a further training project for court interpreters at the University of Hamburg .

Live and act

After completing her master's degree, which Christiane Driesen obtained in 1967, she taught, translated and interpreted. In 1974 she took part in an introductory course in German and French law, and two years later she worked as a sworn interpreter. Since 1976 she has worked as a court interpreter and legal translator for businesses, EU institutions, the European Court of Justice , the Council of Europe and the International Tribunal for the Sea . In 1985 Christiane Driesen received her doctorate from the Ecole Supérieure d'Interprétation et de Traduction (ESIT) of the University of Paris III - Sorbonne Nouvelle .

From 1985 to 1995 she worked as a federal advisor in the Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators (BDÜ). From 1991 to 1992 Driesen, together with the Center for German Sign Language in Hamburg, organized training courses for sign language interpreters and spoken language interpreters to introduce them to court interpreting and legal terminology. From 1994 to 1996 she was in charge of training for court interpreters and translators at the University of Hamburg's UNITRAIN training association. Driesen was actively involved in the conception of this training. From 1998 to 2010 she was a professor at the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences and in this capacity headed the specialist interpreting course in the Communication and Media Department.

From 2000 to 2002 she held the office of Vice-President in the court interpreting department of the BDÜ. In 2008 she took over the scientific management of the further training course in court interpreting at the University of Hamburg . In the same year she was given an eight-week visiting professorship in Conceptión , Chile , where she helped set up an interpreting course. Driesen has been a founding member and Vice President of EULITA (European Legal Interpreters and Translators Association) since 2009.
