Christine Balfa
Christine Balfa (born June 28, 1968 ) is an American triangle player , guitarist and singer who became known as a contemporary representative of Cajun music .
The youngest daughter of the fiddle player Dewey Balfa played triangle as a child with the Balfa Brothers , her father's band. After his death she founded with her husband Dirk Powell in Basile, Louisiana, the group Balfa Toujours , who also Kevin Wimmer and Courtney Granger , a nephew Dewey Balfas belonged. The group has released several albums (including Pop, tu me parles toujours , 1993; à Vieille Terre Haute , 1995; Deux Voyages 1996; La Pointe , 1998; Allons Danser , with Bois Sec Ardoin , 1998; Live at Whiskey River Landing , 2000) . She also belonged temporarily to Ann Savoy's Magnolia Sisters ; on their album Chers Amis (2000) she also played banjo-ukelele and washboard .
With Anya Burgess (fiddle), Ashley Hayes Steele (bass guitar), Daniel Devillier (drums), Kristi Guillory (accordion), Maegan Berard and Yvette Landry , Balfa founded the group Bonsoir Catin , which produced the albums Light the Stars , L'aurore and Vive L'amour published. In 2008 her CD Christine Balfa Plays the Triangle was released , on which her triangle can be heard alone, without any other instruments. It can also be heard on albums by Beau Thomas , Steve Riley , Anthony Thistlethwaite , Marce Lacouture , Ann Savoy / Linda Ronstadt and Eric Bibb .
