Ann (Allen) Savoy (born Ann Allen ; born January 20, 1952 in St. Louis ) is an American Cajun musician (vocals and guitar).

Origin and life

Ann Allan grew up in Richmond , Virginia . She became known to various types of folk music as a child and began playing the guitar at the age of twelve. At the 1975 National Folk Festival in New York, she met the Cajun musician and accordion maker Marc Savoy , whom she married the following year. With her husband and Michael Doucet , she founded the Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band the following year . With Tom Mitchell (lead guitar), Kevin Wimmer (fiddle), Eric Frey (double bass), Chas Justus (rhythm guitar), Glenn Fields (drums) and her sons Wilson (piano) and Joel (rhythm guitar, octave violin), she forms the jazz blues -Group Ann Savoy & Her Sleepless Knights . She, her sons and her husband also perform as the Savoy Famely Cajun Band . In 1995 she founded the Magnolia Sisters with the fiddle player Jane Vidrine (with Anya Burgess , Christine Balfa , Jane Vidrine, Lisa Trahan , Tina Pilione ). In 2006 the album Adieu False Heart was released with Linda Ronstadt . Her book Cajun Music: A Reflection of a People contains texts and music of traditional songs of Cajun and Creole music, interviews with numerous musicians, historical photographs as well as articles and overviews on musical instruments and styles.
