Christine Herbst

Christine Herbst (born July 19, 1957 in Dresden , after marriage to Christine Paulick ) is a former swimming athlete from the GDR who won an Olympic silver medal in 1972.

Christine Herbst swam at SC Einheit Dresden and trained with Uwe Neumann. In 1972 she won the GDR championship on both back courses. At the 1972 Olympic Games, she swam over 100 meters back to seventh place, took fifth place over 200 meters and won the silver medal behind the Americans with the individual relay team consisting of Christine Herbst, Renate Vogel , Roswitha Beier and Kornelia Ender . In 1973 she finished second and third in the GDR championship. At the swimming world championships in 1973 she reached sixth and fourth places. Her club colleague Ulrike Richter was used in the relay , who was to dominate the backstroke for the next few years, while Herbst soon ended her career.

Later, the trained beautician worked in the electrical industry, after the fall of the Wall she returned to her profession as a beautician.
