Christine Hies

Christine Hies (born June 4, 1950 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian politician ( SPÖ ).

Life

Christine Hies, née Sotona, learned the profession of hairdresser after attending compulsory schools and later also worked as a housewife .

She has been involved in the social democratic party since the mid-1960s, became a member of the district women's committee in 1979, and later, in 1988, chairwoman of the district women's committee for the Vienna district of Hernals .

In Hernals she was elected to the district council as a member of the SPÖ in 1983, to which she was to belong until 1987. In 1987 she moved into the Vienna Landtag and City Council for the first time for the SPÖ . After four years, Sotona became a member of the Federal Council in December 1991 , to which she was to belong for three years until October 1994. In early September 1992 she married and took her husband's family name, Hies .

After leaving the Federal Council in October 1994, Christine Hies again accepted a mandate in the Vienna City Council, which she was to hold for only two more years, until 1996.

In 1996, after the state and local council elections in Vienna , Christine Hies became deputy district head in Hernals. It stayed that way until 2001.
