Memory of Christine Lavant (1915–1973)

The Christine Lavant Prize has been awarded by the International Christine Lavant Society since 2016 and recognizes "writers who, like Christine Lavant , combine high aesthetic standards with a humane attitude and a socially critical view in their literary work ". The prize is endowed with 15,000 euros.

Objective, endowment

On the one hand, the prize aims to promote the dissemination and knowledge of Christine Lavant's literary work and, on the other, to honor writers with a humane attitude. The prize is awarded for poetry and prose in German to authors who “have already been perceived by the public as important literary voices”.

The prize money was raised exclusively by private sponsors such as the Hans Schmid Private Foundation or Allianz Elementar Versicherung, and by the International Christine Lavant Society.

The award ceremony takes place as part of a festive matinee. In 2017 the event took place in Vienna's RadioKulturhaus , with a reading of Lavant texts by Gerti Drassl , with musical accompaniment, a laudation by Klaus Amann and a performance by the award winner.
