Christine Pillhofer (* 1954 in Vienna ; † January 10, 2018 ibid) was an Austrian freelance painter and sculptor . The memorial she created for Karl Popper was unveiled on July 7, 2002 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his death in the Arkadenhof of the University of Vienna .

Life

Christine Pillhofer dealt intensively with classical ballet until she was 14 and also took lessons in acrobatics, free dance, painting and drawing. In the course of this, she also appeared on television. At the same time she took piano lessons and made her first appearance at the age of 14 in the Mozart Hall of the Vienna Konzerthaus as a solo pianist with an orchestra. Her passion was music and dance. Her main goal was to be a concert pianist - for health reasons she had to give this up and since then has devoted herself to sculpture and drawing. She attended the fashion school in Hetzendorf and then began an apprenticeship in ceramics. After completing her school days, she said she “dangled” through the bars of Vienna as a blues harmonica player.

In 1977 she took part in the international sculptors' symposium and competition in Vienna-Oberlaa, where she won 2nd prize. Since then she has been self-taught and has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions at home and abroad. Elements of dance and movement can be seen in almost all of her works. As a specialty within sculpture, she made portrait busts, which were almost exclusively made from photos. Busts from her hand can be seen in Vienna, among other places, in Bruno-Kreisky-Park , in the Arkadenhof of the university and in the new General Hospital . She lived and worked in Vienna and Istria (Croatia). Her father Josef Pillhofer (1921-2010) was also a sculptor.

The artist commented on her works in the following words: "My art is unintentional, it is not the result of an act of will, but arises from a spirit that opens up to its inspirations in devotion and materializes as form in concentration on it".
