Schauenburg Collection
The Schauenburg Collection is a collection of 68 thematic maps , mainly from the Swiss Plateau and the Swiss Jura , which were created between 1616 and 1789 .
It shows militarily important objects and landscapes in what was then Bernese sovereign territory . The collection was confiscated in 1789 by the French general Schauenburg during the French invasion at the Battle of Grauholz . In 1881 the Swiss Confederation was able to buy back the collection from the National and University Library of Strasbourg . Today the originals are in the State Archives of the Canton of Bern and belong to the Federal Military Library .
The maps were issued in 1989 as a facsimile print in their original size. The facsimile prints are available in many Swiss libraries.
