The March book by the Bern geodesist Samuel Bodmer was commissioned in 1705 and completed in 1712 . It contains plans along the entire land border of the Republic of Bern .

The book consists of three volumes and has the full title Marchbuch in it the plan and floor plan of the high land marches of the powerful republic and state of Bern as they are in their ground and limits and bump into all neighboring rulers Produced by orders of the high authorities by Samuel and Immanuel Ott Geometriæ Studiosos .

The Swiss Alpine Club commented on the maps in its 1893 yearbook. In particular, errors in the toponymy chosen by Bodmer are discussed.
