Christine Sautermeister , also Christine Sautermeister-Noël (* in the 20th century) is a German - French philologist , textbook author , essayist and translator from French .

life and work

Christine Sautermeister did her doctorate with a thesis on the reception of the French writer Louis-Ferdinand Céline in Germany. She was a lecturer at the Central Foreign Language Institute of the University of Hamburg and dealt with the foreign language didactics of French and the problems of translations from French into German. She is the author of textbooks for translators and foreign language teaching.

The focus of her linguistic work is the literature of Louis-Ferdinand Céline. She wrote books and numerous articles about him that are received in Celine research, especially in France, and is a co-author at the Société d'études céliniennes . Pierre Assouline called her “spécialiste des rapports entre Céline et l'Allemagne” (Eng .: specialist in relations between Céline and Germany). Together with her husband, the German specialist Gerd Sautermeister, she translated Celine's novel Casse-pipe , which was published in German in 1977 under the title Kanonenfutter . The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung praised the translation performance in its review of the book. Her best-known publications are the essay Céline vociférant, ou, L'art de l'injure (2002), a stylistic study of Céline's language, and the study Louis-Ferdinand Céline à Sigmaringen (2013) on reality and fiction in Céline's novel D ' un château l'autre from 1957.
