The C. Bange Verlag is the Velcro group associated small publishing house in the Upper Franconian town of Hollfeld and best known for his series King notes .

history

C. Bange Verlag was founded on November 11, 1871 by Carl Bange in Halberstadt . In 1898 the Leipzig publisher Hermann Beyer acquired the publishing house from Bange's widow. With this purchase, the Leipzig publishing house took over the series “Small Translation Library of Roman and Greek Classics”. A year earlier, on June 1, 1897, it had the rights to the four-volume series “Dr. Wilhelm König's Notes on the Classics ”. Until 1932, a few publishers came under the umbrella of Hermann Beyer, which were continued under their old company name (so-called imprints ). With these takeovers, in addition to literary works such as those of Hans Christian Andersen and specialist bookselling literature, a handicraft book series "How do I build myself?"

In 1912 the first learning aids appeared in Beyer Verlag. In the following period, Hermann Beyer adjusted the publishing program through sales and concentrated on publications on extracurricular education. After his death on July 17, 1935, his sons Rudolf and Wolfgang took over the publishing business and brought the series “How do I build myself?” To 305 different building instructions for radios , gliders and more. The passive attitude of the publishing house owners towards National Socialism led to the closure of the entire company on August 26, 1944.

As early as October 10, 1945, the publisher was able to resume bookselling activities with a decision from the newly formed Central Office for Books and Libraries at the Public Education Office of the City of Leipzig. However, a publishing and production license had to be applied for from the Soviet occupying power. The repeated unsuccessful application suggested that a full resumption of publishing would be difficult. On October 24, 1951, with a new entry in the Bayreuth commercial register, publishing began as a parallel publisher in Hollfeld, Upper Franconia, under the publisher's name C. Bange for political and legal reasons. The new beginning took place in consultation with the owners still working in Leipzig and was managed by a former Leipzig employee, Helmut Breitfeld. On December 23, 1953, the GDR authorities, which had been in effect since 1949, rejected the application for a production license. This is why the Hermann Beyer publishing house ended the delivery in Leipzig around 1962.

On January 2, 1976, the founder's grandson, Joachim Beyer , joined the company. The success of the series “Dr. Wilhelm König's Explanations of the Classics ”, the publishing house under Beyer's direction took into account with contemporary changes and updates. During this time, the name of the series was changed to "King's Explanations and Materials". The series “Bange Lernhilfe” was expanded further.

Since January 1, 1997, C. Bange Verlag GmbH & Co. KG has been run by Thomas Appel and Kerstin Lange, a granddaughter of Hermann Beyer. A year later, with the introduction of the new spelling rules on August 1, 1998, extensive changes were made, particularly for the German learning aids area. In the course of these changes, the appearance of the series was also changed. The series “Kurz & Bündig” with brief information on specific topics was published from 1999, the Abitur trainer German from 2000. The series of explanatory volumes was increasingly supplemented by contemporary literature and changed its previously familiar appearance.

In 2001 the Bange Verlag went online, in 2002 it changed its corporate form to C. Bange Verlag GmbH . A year later, the series of learning aids was renamed "King's Learning Aids" and the first volume of the “King's Copy Templates” series was published. From January 2011, the King's Explanations appeared in a new format. For the first time in the history of the publishing house, an extensive content-related and visual revision was carried out one after the other after a student and teacher survey. The series title changed to "King's Explanations".
