Christine Strube

Christine Strube (born February 14, 1943 in Senftenberg , Niederlausitz ) is a German Christian archaeologist .

She studied Classical Archeology , Ancient History and Classical Philology in Cologne , Bonn and Frankfurt and Byzantine Studies in Munich . In 1970 she was presented with the work The Western Entrance Side of the Churches of Constantinople in Justinian times. Architectural and source-critical studies in Munich for Dr. phil. PhD. With the help of a scholarship, she was able to carry out research on early Christian architecture and building decoration in Syria in 1971 and 1972 and completed her habilitation in 1977 at the University of Munich. From 1980 until her retirement in 2009 she taught as a professor at the University of Heidelberg (since 1987 C 3) Christian archeology and Byzantine archeology and art history. She is a full member of the German Archaeological Institute and was a specialist representative for Christian archeology in its central directorate from 1997 to 2010. Her main research interests are the interrelationships between architecture and liturgy , the settlement history of the Near East and building decoration from the late antique-early Byzantine period in Constantinople, Syria and Asia Minor.
