Vasiliki Tsamakda

Vasiliki Tsamakda ( Greek Βασιλική Τσαμακδά , * 1970 in Thessaloniki ) is a Greek Christian archaeologist and Byzantine art historian .

Vasiliki Tsamakda studied classical archeology, history and art history at the University of Crete from 1988 to 1992 . From 1994 to 1995 she studied classical archeology and art history at the University of Leipzig . From 1995 to 2001, he did a doctorate at Heidelberg University in Byzantine archeology and art history. In 2001 she received her doctorate with the work The Illustrated Chronicle of Johannes Skylitzes in Madrid and worked as a lecturer at Heidelberg University. In 2008 he completed his habilitation at the University of Munich with the venia legendi for late antiquity and Byzantine art history. In the winter semester 2008/09 she taught as a substitute professor at the University of Munich. Since 2009 she has been teaching as professor for Christian archeology and Byzantine art history at the Institute for Art History at the University of Mainz .

Her main research interests include Byzantine book illumination , the Middle and Late Byzantine painting of Crete (the Byzantine frescoes in the churches of Kakodiki and the Byzantine churches of the Kandanos district in Selino ) and the archeology and painting of the Domitilla catacombs in Rome .
