Johannes Koder
Johannes Koder (born July 26, 1942 in Vienna ) is an Austrian Byzantinist .
Life
After studying Byzantine, Arabic and Greek from 1960 to 1965, Koder received his doctorate from the University of Vienna under Herbert Hunger in 1965 and habilitated in 1973. After an assistant in Vienna from 1963 to 1977, he became an associate professor there in 1977. From 1978 to 1985 he was Professor of Byzantine Studies at the University of Mainz . From 1985 to 2010 he held a full professorship at the Institute for Byzantine and Neo-Greek Studies at the University of Vienna, succeeding Herbert Hunger .
From 2012 to 2016 he was President of the Association Internationale des Études Byzantines .

- 2000: actual member of the philosophical-historical class of the Austrian Academy of Sciences

- 2011: Honorary doctorate from the University of Ioannina
- 2012: Member of the Academia Europaea
