Ewald Kislinger

Ewald Kislinger (* 1956 in Steyr ) is an Austrian Byzantinist .

Life

From 1974 he studied Byzantine Studies, History and Classical Philology at the University of Vienna . In 1982 he completed his studies with a doctorate in Byzantine Studies (minor in Southeast European history ). From 1980 to 1981 he was a member of the organizing committee of the 16th International Congress of Byzantine Studies in Vienna. Since 1982 he has been employed at the Institute for Byzantine and Neo-Greek Studies at the University of Vienna, first as a contract assistant, from 1992 as a university assistant, and since his habilitation (2000) in Byzantine studies as a university lecturer / associate professor . From 1992 to 2003 he worked for the novelty bibliography of the Byzantine magazine (for Austria, southern Italy and the subjects of everyday life and medicine). From 2007 to 2018 he was editor of the yearbook of Austrian Byzantine Studies . Kislinger's research focuses on the history of events, everyday life, medicine and hospital management as well as aspects of Byzantine Sicily . For his historical and archaeological research on the Basilian monastery of San Pietro di Deca ("Conventazzo"), Kislinger was awarded honorary citizenship of the municipality of Torrenova (Province of Messina / Italy) in 2012 . Kislinger is married to the Italian Byzantinist Carolina Cupane .
