history

Santi Vincenzo e Anastasio a Trevi is located on the site of a medieval church that was mentioned in a bull by Pope John XII in 962 . was mentioned. The medieval church building was dedicated to Holy New Year's Eve . A smaller church dedicated to Saint Anastasius has been known on the site of today's church since the 10th century. Since 1570 it has been known as "Santi Vincenzo e Anastasio". The original church was rebuilt in Baroque style on the order of Cardinal Mazarin . It should serve as both a cardinal church and a parish church. The embalmed hearts of 22 popes should also be kept in it.

architecture

A special feature of the church is the impressive facade, u. a. made of travertine . The building solution placed in the corner opens up imaginatively to the square. A Corinthian column arrangement made up of two pairs of columns placed together emphasizes the vertical facade and contrasts with the horizontal staggered cornices and gable motifs. Despite the massive pillar effect, the facade is loosened up by figurative insertions in the upper area. The measure of staggering the upper gable in three forms also appears effective. It is believed that Mazarin had his niece Maria Mancini , a mistress of King Louis XIV , immortalized on the facade.

Inside the pilaster basilica is u. a. the altar painting "Martyrdom of Saints Vincent and Anastasius" by the Spanish-Italian painter Francesco Pascucci .
