Christof Eck (born April 24, 1968 , † September 14, 2011 ) was a German mathematician who dealt with applied analysis and numerical mathematics.

Eck studied in Konstanz and Stuttgart and received his doctorate in 1996 under Wolfgang Wendland (* 1936) at the University of Stuttgart (existence and regularity of solutions for contact problems with friction). From 1998 he was assistant professor at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg , where he completed his habilitation in 2004 ( A Two-Scale Phase Field Model for Liquid-Solid Phase Transitions of Binary Mixtures with Dendritic Microstructure ). In 2007 he became professor at Bielefeld University and in 2008 professor for numerical mathematics at Stuttgart University.

He dealt with partial differential equations, multiscale problems and free boundary value problems and in particular the mathematics of phase transitions (especially phase field models ), dendritic growth and contact mechanics .
