Life

Christoph was a son of Duke Otto II of Braunschweig-Harburg (1528–1603) from his second marriage to Hedwig (1535–1616), daughter of Count Enno II of East Frisia .

After the death of his father, he and his brother Wilhelm August took over the government of Harburg. In January 1604 the city of Harburg paid homage to the ducal brothers.

Christoph married Elisabeth (1567–1618), daughter of Duke Julius von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel and widow of Count Adolf XI, in Harburg on October 28, 1604 . from Schaumburg . The marriage remained childless and Christoph died two years later after a fall in Harburg Castle. The duke's motto was Consilio et armis (Through wisdom and arms).

Since the eldest brother Johann Friedrich (1557–1619) had renounced any government responsibility, the next brother Otto took Christoph's position as joint regent.
