Christoph Bender from Bienenthal

(Johann) Christoph Bender (from 1661 Bender von Bienenthal ) (born November 18, 1603 in Frankfurt am Main ; † May 13, 1666 there ) was a politician in the imperial city of Frankfurt.

Life

Bender von Bienenthal was the son of the Frankfurt lawyer and notary Conrad Bender and his wife Maria née Geisselmeyer. In 1635 he married the daughter of the mint master Caspar Ayrer, Susanna Ayrer. Their son Jacob Bender von Bienenthal also became councilor and junior mayor in Frankfurt.

After his father's death in 1618, Bender moved to Erfurt and trained as a bookseller there. In 1619 he worked as an intern and private tutor in Jena and Leipzig. From 1620 he lived again in Frankfurt and studied law privately. In 1625 he made a trip on foot to France (Orléans, Tours, Sedan) and was enrolled at the University of Strasbourg on October 30, 1627 . Then he was at the Imperial Court of Justice in Speyer before disputing in Strasbourg in 1629 without accepting the doctorate. From 1633 he was a lawyer in Frankfurt.

Bender became councilor in 1636 and alderman in 1639 in Frankfurt am Main. In 1648, 1655, 1658 and 1662 he was senior mayor and from November 1, 1662 town councilor. On November 11, 1661, he was raised to the nobility and appointed imperial council.
