Christoph Gärtner

Christoph Gärtner (born December 1964 in Bietigheim-Bissingen ) is a German philatelist and auctioneer. He is the founder and managing director of the Christoph Gärtner auction house , based in Bietigheim-Bissingen, and is a well-known auctioneer in philately .

Life

As early as 1983, during his school days at the Ellentalgymnasien , Gärtner founded his own business and traded in postage stamps. In 1984 he passed his Abitur. In 2003 his company was considered the world's leading trading company for letters and postal history. After building the headquarters in Bietigheim on 2,700 m², he founded the auction house Christoph Gärtner for stamps & numismatics in 2004 , since April 2005 as a trading and auction house Gärtner . The company has 60 employees and worldwide cooperation partners.

Auctions

In his first auction on 28/29. In June 2006, Gärtner put 5,700 lots up for auction and achieved a turnover of 1.7 million euros. After the 4th auction in September 2007, his company was the largest auction and trading house for philately in Central Europe and the second largest worldwide. On May 30, 2016, Gärtner was represented with his 34th auction as auctioneer at the World Stamp Show NY 2016 in New York (continued in June 2016 in Bietigheim-Bissingen). With 31,000 lots in a total of 15 catalogs, he achieved sales of 12 million euros.

In the course of his company management, Gärtner took over the following auction houses:

Foundations

On March 30, 2011, Gärtner donated 15,000 albums with 16 million stamps, weighing over 18 tons and catalog value as part of the project “Lust auf Briefmarken - With cool stamps on the ball”, with the Russian chess world champion Anatoli Karpow as patron of 10 million euros in schools, youth groups and kindergartens.

On January 22nd, 2015, Gärtner donated his "Postal History Home Collection Bietigheim-Bissingen" to the city of Bietigheim-Bissingen with a variety of postmarks and historical postcards from Bietigheim , Bissingen, Metterzimmer and Untermberg as well as special envelopes from local companies and documents showing the changes in the local post offices . In addition to Lord Mayor Jürgen Kessing , the director of the Hornmoldhaus City Museum, Regina Ille-Kopp, and Sonja Eisele from the City Archives received the donation. Among other things, there are plans to make the numerous individual pieces from three centuries available for future exhibitions or research projects on the city's history.
