Christoph Gilli

Christoph "Hippy" Gilli (born June 17, 1963 in Littau ; † May 26, 2010 ) was a Swiss football player and football coach .

biography

Gilli began his active career as a defender at FC Littau and in 1983 became a professional football player in the National League B at SC Zug . Between 1985 and 1987 he played under the then coach Ottmar Hitzfeld at FC Aarau , who was previously coach at SC Zug.

During this time he also played his only game for the national team in 1986 in a 2-0 win against the French national football team .

Later, Gilli was still a player at AC Bellinzona from 1987 to 1988 and from 1988 to 1992 at FC Zurich , which was promoted to the National League A in 1990. At the side of Beat Studer , Augustine Makalakalane , Roger Ljung and Vincent Fournier , he was one of the club's regulars who had to compete in the promotion and relegation round after only three wins this season in regular time with the club. There succeeded with seven wins without defeat as the first in the table of relegation.

Most recently he was a player at FC Luzern between 1992 and 1994 .

In 2006 Christoph Gilli returned to FC Littau and worked as a coach for the A-Juniors for two years. He was also an important pillar of the senior team at FC Littau, with whom he was the Central Swiss Senior Champion in 2008 and the Central Swiss Senior Cup winner in 2009.

Christoph Gilli died unexpectedly on May 26, 2010.
