Christoph Gottwald (doctor)

Christoph Gottwald (* 1636 in Danzig ; † June 1, 1700 ibid) was a German physician , natural scientist and city ​​physician of Danzig.

Life

Christoph Gottwald worked as a city physician in Danzig in the second half of the 17th century.

On February 27, 1698, Christoph Gottwald with the nickname Asclepiodotus was accepted as a member ( matriculation no. 231 ) in the Leopoldina .

Christoph Gottwald created a rich and well-known natural history cabinet , which his son Johann Christoph Gottwald steadily expanded. After the death of his son, Peter I bought the collection from his heirs for 1000 rubles after a personal inspection of the collection in Gdansk and brought it to Saint Petersburg . The remaining copper plates and manuscripts were acquired from the Nuremberg publisher Gabriel Nicolaus Raspe (1712–1785) and published.
