Christoph Hellwig Papendieck

Christoph Hellwig Papendieck (born  November 25, 1839 in Bremen , †  November 17, 1891 in Territet near Montreux in Switzerland ) was one of the most influential merchants of the early years in Bremen.

biography

Papendieck was the son of a businessman . He learned in the tobacco company Holler & Grote , where he was a partner in 1863 and its sole owner, he was from 1875 and the company & Co. Chr. Papendieck has been renamed.

He had great influence in all matters of trade in the Hanseatic city, for example as a proponent of the Weser Correction , as chairman of the shipowners' association of the Lower Weser area , as chairman of the supervisory board of the German steam shipping company "Hansa" , as a founding member of the Bremen towing company and the jute spinning and weaving mill in Bremen . In 1890 he became chairman of the exhibition committee of the Northwest German Trade and Industry Exhibition . From 1875 to 1889 and 1891 he was a member of the Bremen Chamber of Commerce , and in 1882 even its President . From 1879 he was chairman of the administrative board of the Sparkasse Bremen . In addition, he was on the board of the Bürgerpark Verein for many years .

From 1868 until his death Papendieck was a member of the Bremen citizenship . In 1890 he ran for the Reichstag , but was defeated by the Social Democratic candidate.

Honors

  • In 1890 he received the eighth Bremen Medal of Honor in gold because of the “promotion of trade and commerce within the framework of the Northwest German Trade and Industry Exhibition” .
  • The Papendieck street in Bremen- Schwachhausen was named after him.
