Christoph Hering (born November 24, 1939 in Oedelsheim ) is a German mathematician who deals with group theory and its application in geometry and algebraic combinatorics . He is a professor at the University of Tübingen .

Hering received his doctorate in 1962 under Reinhold Baer and Ruth Moufang at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main ( A characterization of finite two-dimensional projective groups ) He was an assistant in Frankfurt in 1963/64, completed his habilitation in 1966 at the University of Mainz and was in Chicago, before he became professor in Tübingen in 1974 . In the 1970s he was the dean of the mathematics department.

In 1965 he gave a classification of the Möbius planes based on their automorphism groups similar to Hanfried Lenz and Adriano Barlotti for the projective planes ( Lenz-Barlotti classification ).
