Christoph Hinterhuber

Christoph Hinterhuber (born October 8, 1969 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian visual artist.

Life

Christoph Hinterhuber studied painting and new technologies from 1994 to 1998 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (with Arnulf Rainer and Peter Kogler ). Until 2005 he lived mainly in Vienna and Berlin, with longer periods of work in Chicago, Grenoble, Cairo, Melbourne, Mexico City, Moscow, Nantes, Paliano, Paris, Rome and St. Petersburg. In 2001 Hinterhuber represented Austria at the 8th International Cairo Biennale (curator Birgit Jürgenssen ). Since 2005 he has lived mainly in Innsbruck. From 2009 to 2015 Hinterhuber taught at the Institute for Experimental Architecture and from 2015 to 2020 at the Institute for Design.

Christoph Hinterhuber is a member of the Vienna Secession (Board of Directors 2006–2007) and a member of the Tyrolean Artists (Board of Directors 2008–2016). From 2008 to 2009 he was curator for medien.kunst.tirol / Kunstraum Innsbruck, from 2011 to 2014 organizer of the nomadic techno club the-revolution-is-over-and-we-have-won. Hinterhuber has been a member of the advisory board of the Künstlerhaus Schloss Büchsenhausen in Innsbruck since 2011 .

Christoph Hinterhuber works with a strongly conceptual and digital approach. His work focuses on questions of abstraction and space from different perspectives. Image spaces , action spaces , digital and virtual space, semiotic space, architectural space, linguistic space, sound space, public space , social, cognitive and historical spaces are interwoven . Hinterhuber's works realize complex media solutions and move in a broad field encompassing painting, wall painting, neon systems, installations, 3D computer animation, graphics, performance , speech and techno sound. In this context there are numerous realizations of large-format projects on art in public space , permanent installations , site-specific art, art and architecture. In 2020, Hinterhuber's 55 m long large-format neon installation de-decode de-recode re-decode re-recode , which was shown at the Kunsthalle Wien in 2006 , moved to the roof of the Tyrolean State Museum Ferdinandeum.
