Christoph Konrad

Christoph Konrad (born August 28, 1957 in Bochum ) was a member of the CDU's European Parliament for North Rhine-Westphalia in the European People's Party from 1994 to 2009 .

biography

Konrad studied politics, law and history at the University of Bonn ; he received his doctorate as Dr. phil. with Karl Dietrich Bracher . Before he switched to politics, he held a managerial position in the family business. In 1994 he was elected to the European Parliament for the first time . Here he was a full member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs , deputy member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Security and Defense Subcommittee in the European Parliament. From 1999 he was also a participating member of the EU committee of the German Bundestag. During his parliamentary term, the introduction of the euro and the liberalization of the postal and energy markets took place. He was also rapporteur for the reform of the internal automobile market. For almost a decade he was vice-chairman of the SME-Circle of the EPP Group. As a member of the Cyprus and later the Romania delegation, he accompanied the respective countries joining the EU. Furthermore, the Colonel was a deputy member of the parliamentary assembly of NATO and commissioner of the CDU / CSU group of the European Parliament for relations with the Bundeswehr .

After 15 years of membership in the European Parliament, in addition to his lecturing activities, he has been working as a freelance political consultant since 2009. His numerous mandates include chairing the German section of the Luxembourg Mérite Européen Foundation . Since July 2011 he has been the managing director of the Central Association of the German Motor Vehicle Industry (ZDK).
