Christoph Langhof (born September 16, 1948 in Linz, Austria ) is an architect living in Berlin . His most important buildings include the headquarters of Berliner Wasserbetriebe , the Classicon on Leipziger Platz and the Horst Korber Center at the Olympiastadion Berlin .

Life

Christoph Langhof studied at the Technical University of Vienna and at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. He then continued his studies at the State Art Academy in Düsseldorf with Hans Hollein and at the Berlin University of the Arts (now Berlin University of the Arts ) with Ludwig Leo . Christoph Langhof also received his diploma from Leo. In 1978 he founded the architectural office Langhof Architekten in Berlin. Since 2001 he has been the managing partner of LANGHOF® Studio for Architectural Design Berlin.

His architecture office develops construction projects for public and private clients. As a concept architect, the focus is on the areas of preliminary design, drafting, approval planning, and artistic direction and guidance detail. In Germany he is best known for his high-rise architecture, which he sees as the answer to the urban development challenges faced by a rapidly growing population. The focus of his designs are high-rise buildings with hybrid use . Examples of multifunctional skyscrapers are designs for the Upper West on Berlin's Breitscheidplatz and the “Der Hardenberg” skyscraper on Hardenbergplatz at the Zoo station . His high-rise Epsilon for Berlin-Kreuzberg was discussed in public . Another project is the new “Südmole” residential complex at the Mainz customs port.

Others

Langhof taught a master class as a Diploma Unit Master at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London from 1987 to 1989 and from 1990 to 1991 he held a visiting professorship at the University of Fine Arts in Frankfurt am Main. From 1995 to 2003 he was professor and head of the Institute for Urban Development at the University of Innsbruck . In 2002 Langhof was a member of the Presidium of the Association of German Architects (BDA). He has already been invited to the Venice Architecture Biennale twice .

Awards

Christoph Langhof received the first Berlin architecture award for the Horst Korber sports center. For the Classicon on Leipziger Platz in Berlin, he received the Artib Award for the best office property. The Upper West, Berlin won gold in the commercial category at Fiabci prix, d'excellence, Germany in 2018. In 2019, the Upper West was awarded gold in the "Mixed-use Development" category of the international FIABCI World Prix. The Fiabci is considered the Oscar of the real estate industry.
