Christoph Rainer (born May 15, 1985 in Klosterneuburg ) is an Austrian film director and screenwriter.

Life

Christoph Rainer grew up with seven siblings in Klosterneuburg. After graduating from high school, he attended courses at the Vienna Film School in 2003/04 , worked for Ruth Mader Filmproduktion in 2005 , and studied film directing at the Vienna Film Academy from 2006 onwards . a. with Michael Haneke and Peter Patzak and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2010. A Fulbright scholarship enabled him to study at Columbia University . During his studies he taught students in basic film directing courses in summer courses at the university. In 2015 he received the MFA with awards from CUNY .

So far, Christoph Rainer has only made short films, for which he usually writes the scripts and occasionally takes over the production. His short films have been shown at over 300 film festivals and in museums around the world, including the Tabakalera in San Sebastian and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and have received numerous awards or nominations. In 2013, he won $ 20,000 in prize money at the Toronto Film Festival for his short film Requiem for a Robot , which formed the basis for his short film Pitter Patter Goes My Heart , which was presented by the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy, the Vienna Film Academy and the Columbia University Film Division was produced. The film was u. a. awarded the Max Ophüls Prize 2016.

Christoph Rainer founded the Shortynale Film Festival Klosterneuburg in 2009, at which German-language short films are presented and awarded.
